ST Marine takes pride in its longstanding partnership with the vessel owners of Van Oord Shipmanagement BV (Van Oord) forged through much hard work, blood and sweat. The vessel Vox Maxima is a good testament to this.

In the second quarter of 2017, ST Marine once again welcomed the Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger Vox Maxima back to the yard for repair work. This is the fourth vessel Van Oord has sent to ST Marine this year and the third repair work for this vessel since 2013.

Major work was completed in the third quarter, including modification of jet piping in technical space, withdrawal of both propeller shafts for modification of aft sealing, with major repair work conducted on the travelling deck crane and renewal of various dredge piping above deck level.

One of the major challenge for this project was the overhauling of the damaged starboard propulsion gearbox which weighed approximately 50 tons. The work was carried out under stringent requirements under the maker’s supervision including the provision of skilled mechanical fitters, special lifting arrangement, and heavy lift with 100 tons floating crane and clean space to carry out the repair work. Another challenge was the maintenance for the trailing arm weighing approximately 900 tons. Other scope include the removal, inspection, servicing and testing of the sliding piece.

Completion of this project was no mean feat but reflected the professionalism between the project teams, to provide a happy experience for Van Oord. ST Marine looks forward to bring its business partnership with Van Oord to the next new level.
