VT Halter Marine has launched the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) newest ferry, Powhatan, on 13 August 2018. The new 499-passenger, 70-vehicle ferry replaces the Virginia, which was built in 1936. The Powhatan measures 270 by 65 by 15 feet, and can hold up to 14 trucks or buses in addition to 150 passengers in the passenger cabin on the upper deck.

“We are confident that the Powhatan will deliver as many years of great performance as the Pocahontas, the ferry that we had designed, built and delivered to VDOT in 1995,” said Mr Ronald Baczkowski, CEO of VT Halter Marine.
